Craobh Eo 2011 Seminar.

The Craobh Eo 2011 seminar was held on the 7th May in the Craobh Eo Centre in Aghamore.

We were privileged to have Mick O’Donnell (Scotland) and Robert O’Connor (Wexford) as our demonstrators for the day. The seminar was very well attended and everyone enjoyed the event.

Our third room was available for the first time so we had two demo rooms and the third for trade stands and refreshments.

Mick O’Donnell treated us to a wonderful day of green wood turning and redefined thin wall bowls for us into the process. He is a gifted teacher as well and his forte is that he simplifies the technique so we mortals can go home and put it into practice. He took us through the steps stating the most important one was the first where you design the piece. The subsequent stages are technical and follow a predictable pattern. See photos below.

Robert O’Connor is one of Irelands finest woodturners and not afraid to tackle complex pieces during his demos. See below pictures of his beaded bowl and goblet. He did a gavel and block as well. Robert was a pleasure to watch and excelled also at passing on tips and techniques. We also had the pleasure of meeting Robert Junior who is no mean turner in his own right.

The competion pieces were to a high standard as usual – see photos below. Congrats to Ian McDougall, Peter Lyons and Chris Sweeney. Also well done to Wille  Creighton for his sporting theme collaborative piece (football) for the Galway chapter.

Well done to all who made the day such a success and special thanks to those who travelled long journeys to be there on the day.

A special thanks to our demonstrators Robert and Mick who hade such a great day.
