Sep 2014 Meeting

Our first meeting of the new year (Sept 2014) was held on Thurs. 11th Sept. in the Craobh Eo Centre in Aghamore.

Willie Creighton kindly agreed to demonstrate at short notice as our A.G.M was deferred to Oct. due to our Treasurer not being available

Willie warmed up by turning a garden dibber demonstrating many spindle cuts as he went along. See below.

Next up was a ceiling rose which had been laminated previously and Willie explained how to match up the grain when doing this. He first sketched his design on the blackboard so we could follow his progress. This is a very useful project and would adorn any ceiling. Follow the pictures below.

Finally Willie turned a laburnum budvase. First he rounded the blank and turned a spigot for mounting in the chuck. Then the top was hollowed and body shaped. He finished by sanding, burning some detail lines with a wire and applying a coat of finish. It turned out lovely. See below.

Seldom have we seen so much accomplished in so short a time. Willie as usual demonstrated all his turning and teaching skills at which he is a master. Thank you Willie for a very enjoyable first evening back.

September's Competition

The Sept. competition was a piece of your choice. There was a very good display and standard was high.  Well done to all who submitted their piece.

October’s competition is an earring holder with storage compartment. Max height 150mm.
