December 2021 Meeting

The December meeting of the CraobhEo 2021/22 year took place on the 9th December in the CraobhEo Centre in Aghamore.

Willie Creighton was our demonstrator for the evening.  ​

Willie started out with a garden dibber. He rounded a blank, turned the tip and handle and then burned some rings to finish it off. This is a nice project for a beginner and always nice to give as a gift.

For the main demonstration Willie turned a platter made from walnut. A blank was mounted on a faceplate and the bottom turned. Then a recess for the chuck was turned which acted as a design feature as well.

The blank was then remounted using the tailstock attachment for the chuck to provide the utmost accuracy in lining up. Then the top was turned, starting with the rim which included a nice design.  Finally, working towards the middle of the platter, final cuts were made and the platter finished.

Walnut always looks stunning and the platter was no exception.

Well done Willie for this demo and especially for standing in to do the demo at short notice.

This was our last meeting for 2021 so a very happy Christmas to all our members and followers.
