Safety

If Possible

	Wear a smock that can be fastened at neck and wrists
	Wear eye protection like goggles or a shield that will allow you to wear your spectacles
	Use an extractor or dust mask when turning and sanding
	Allow adequate workspace around machines

Avoid

	Working with blunt tools
	Leaving woodshavings and clutter all over the place
	Working where there is bad light
	Woodturning when tired

Always

	Stabilise wood so as to minimise pieces flying off the lathe
	Keep your concentration while lathe is turning
	Use the correct lathe speed for the job
	Dispose of oily rags or tissues to avoid self combustion
