January 2023 Meeting
Danny McGeever from the Sligo chapter was our demonstrator for our January 2023 Craobh Eo chapter meeting.
Danny’s chosen project was ‘a cat’. It’s main body was a piece of Lelandia, dimensions 100mm x 100mm. Lengths can vary depending on height of cat required. Danny explained how to cut square piece into an octagonal piece – this saves time turning down to round. Top end of the body was turned down to 28mm – bottom end 75mm approx. The main body looked bottle-shaped. The piece for the head was 55mm x 55mm x 100mm long. First, he drilled a 28mm hole to fit the top of the cat, then he shaped the head into an elliptical shape. He marked for nose and eyes and drilled a 10mm hole for these. He turned a nose, rounded in the front down to 10mm to fit the pre-drilled hole. The whiskers (paint brush bristles), were inserted with nose. The eyes (bought) were inserted. Ears were turned like a cone, cut up the middle giving two ears which were then stuck on.
This was a lovely demonstration by Danny and a nice project that would be pleasing to many. At the end Danny showed us some of his turned projects.
Thanks Danny for a very interesting night.
