October 2019 Meeting

The October meeting of the 2019/20 Craobh Eo woodturning year was held on Thurs October 10th, 2019 in the Craobh Eo Centre in Aghamore.

This was our A.G.M.

Our chairman, Tom Jordan opened the meeting and reflected on a successful year for CraobhEo. The outside demonstrators added a new dimension to our monthly meetings and he encouraged all members to take part in the monthly competitions. The Annual Seminar was opened by Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural & Community Development and he thanked him for his services along with the sponsors of our spot prizes.

Secretary Pat O’Malley also reiterated this and congratulated Colm Brennan, Sligo and our own Ian McDougall on their competition successes. A lot of money was raised for our chosen charity, Down Syndrome Mayo from our Ferris wheel project. Members were brought up to date on the Crane Chapter Challenge project and following a great effort from the team a crane will be ready to go forward to the IWG National Seminar later in the month.  The chapter has 41 members with more due to join shortly.

Treasurer Martin Wilson presented the Treasurer’s report went through in detail. He explained the relationship between the IWG and the local chapters from a financial perspective. Pro and Membership Secretary Willie Creighton went into detail on sponsorship received for various projects and thanked all sponsors. Tom Burke spoke on behalf of the Building Committee and the great work being done to keep the building warm, clean and looking good.

It was agreed that lighting and cameras needed upgrading and should be progressed.

The October competition was for a whipping top. Seeing the individual entries being spun generated a lot of interest. Well don to those who submitted a top.

Competition piece for November is a pocket mirror.
